Contact Bonnie B to discuss ways to optimize your website for search. Is Your Small Business Website Optimized for Search?

If it's not...How will your site be found?

Small businesses can't compete with the likes of mega-corporate companies, but there are still ways to attract traffic to your website. Patience, stick-to-it-iveness and time is what it takes.

So, roll up your sleeves and let's talk a bit about what you should do to optimize your website, keeping in mind that it's not an overnight or simple feat, but one that takes time, diligence and fortitude.

  1. Create remarkable content that speak to your viewers searches.
    • Search engines want to provide a good user experience and will show your site page if viewers continue to find it and visit it.
    • If the content on your page and the SEO tags you've created don't reflect the keywords you're targeting, you need to start again.
  2. Use Geo-targeting methods to alert search engines that your service or supply a particular neighborhood or area
    • If you bake cupcakes and sell them in New Jersey make sure your <tags> specify that.
      • Tag your images, internal links and <headers>.
    • Speak about your local area in your content.
      • And add details...if you bake the best chocolate cupcakes in the New Jersey Shore area, be sure to say it!
    • Provide maps or driving directions if you own a 'brick and mortar' location.
  3. Create a bio for you or your company or both detailing your expertise.
    • Mention any awards you've won by peers or for your product or services.
    • Writing articles about what you do and using the same keywords will help.
  4. Generate links from within your website that are relevant to the content on the page you're optimizing
    • Implement back-links from sites you may exchange comments or blog posts with.
  5. Create newsletters, social media posts and tweets sharing the URL of your page and be sure to include some text that mentions the optimized keywords.

This is a great starting point, but it doesn't end here. SEO is a tricky beast.

It's important to continually build on the success of each page on your website. Does that time time, and again, patience? You bet it does! And to add to it all, the "rules" change constantly. So, what's equally important is to be on top of the latest search queries and what makes the engines "tick".

It's best to establish a schedule of how often you'll create new page content, blog, write articles and brag across social media platforms. And, of course, you'll do this while you're running your business...right?

Make a Search Engine Optimization game plan and get to work!
